Hi there, friend!

Welcome to my blog, The Joyfull Now. I share my adventures in beauty, style, and fitness. Hope you enjoy!

Creative? Who, me?!

Creative? Who, me?!

I love social media. You want to know why I love social media?

Because it literally brings people together whose paths may never have crossed.

Case and point: last weekend, my friend Jesus invited me to a 'creatives meet-up' hosted by some of his friends at Hive Creativesa company dedicated to connecting creatives everywhere and inspiring a community across the world. Initially I was going to model for Jesus, while he captured some dope shots, as he always does.

But, then my mind started churning and I started imagining what exactly a 'creative meet-up' meant. Mind you, I do NOT in any way, shape, or form consider myself a creative individual. I'm not artistic - I only took Art as an elective because the teacher didn't care if you talked throughout class, as long as you got the assignment done. I'm not a hipster nor a super cool photographer.  I don't consider myself a stylist-in-the-making, and I model for FUN (it's too hard not to laugh every time.)  So if I'm being honest, I thought I would feel like a fish out of water.

Now, I know it's hard to believe that me - your favorite sassy, confident BAMF - would ever feel intimidated, but it happens from time to time. You know that tiny voice of insecurity that tries to discourage you from pursuing new opportunities, or tries to dissuade you from finally going after long-lost dreams? I have one of those too! I think it's pretty safe to say that we all do. And mine was just about to grab the mic before I shut that ish down.

I AM A CREATIVE.

I have a brain with two hemispheres: right and left. The left is for analytical purposes, and the right is for creativity. Ergo, I am a creative individual simply because I was created to be one. I write. I use words to create pictures and stories. I craft ideas with my sentences and build thought-tracks with my vocabulary. I'm basically a freaking architect. Once I looked at it from that perspective, I walked with my shoulders back, not feeling like I had to prove anything to anyone. And as a result, I met some awesome photographers who love what they do and do what they love.

You may have dreams and ideas that you think sound cool or want to pursue, and that tiny voice of insecurity keeps trying to silence them . Like I said, you gotta shut that ish down. Know that you are capable and that you have every right to try. From one BAMF to another, you got this.

Huge thanks to Jesus, who as always, makes me look way cooler than I actually am. He too is one CREATIVE dude!

Always,
