For some reason Tuesday is always my day of the week in which I get on a playlist kick. I'm always searching for new tunes, different sounds, and just overall good music that I can vibe out to while I'm slaving away at the job. Deep down, I think it's a subconscious conditioning to the fact that back in the day, new albums were usually released on a Tuesday. I remember like it was yesterday...June 24th, 2003, when Dangerously In Love hit stores. Beyonce's FIRST solo album. And can you guess what day that was? Yup, you got it...a Tuesday. #GoingUpOnATuesday was a thing before it was even a thing.
Now I know there's a contest between iTunes Music and Spotify (and Tidal, I guess). But, I have to admit that I've been rocking with Spotify for a LONG time. Since 2011, when it was first released in the US and was 'Invitation Only.' People loooooove exclusivity. Lol. That being said, I'm a loyalist. And while my heart and bank account typically belong to Apple, in this case, my loyalty lies with Spotify. I tried Apple Music, and I just wasn't a fan. I have found the best, coolest, playlists on Spotify. Whoever is responsible for putting the official 'Spotify' playlists together, kudos to you! Can I be your friend? I'll buy you coffee and pizza. I mean it's like they know me. They know what I want to hear, when I want to hear it.
I will admit too, that I get song-bougie, and if I don't like the first 3.4 seconds, I'll skip over it. I learned today: trust the Spotify lords. They've never disappointed. Case and point, I'm listening to a playlist entitled 'Chill Hits' and updating an Excel spreadsheet, and I stop for a second like 'ooooo this song is dope....definitely haven't heard this!' When I pulled up the playlist, turns out I was wrong. I have heard it. And skipped it - time and again. And at my desk, by myself, I felt a little sheepish. Like oh, well it should've started out this good and maybe I would've given it a chance. Thank God for music. And good music at that.
